In an effort to diversify the professional opportunities Veterans encounter as they transition from their military service, FASTPORT is expanding its technology to help them access careers in the agricultural industry on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Program’s Fast Track initiative.
FASTPORT and agriculture industry leader CHS announced the release at of the Agriculture Track the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Transition Summit during the Agriculture and Forestry educational panel where service members gathered to learn about their career options and resources in these growing sectors. As an industry leader in Veteran employment, CHS understands that the values, work ethic, and skills developed in the military provide a solid foundation on which service members can build their civilian careers in the industry.
Adam Holton, CHS Chief Human Resources Officer, explained why the company joined with FASTPORT to share the Hiring Our Heroes tool with more Veterans: “With so many organizations and companies attempting to recruit the military community, transitioning service members are drowning in a sea of goodwill. We want to ensure that service men and woman can go to one place to access all the educational materials they need, mentors for personalized guidance, and available job postings to start their new careers. The Agriculture Track is that one-stop shop.”

The Agriculture Track is the newest addition to the Hiring Our Heroes Fast Track Program that provides career information in an industry-based format and nearly four million job postings. The Agriculture Track will also include detailed, searchable job postings that include salary and benefit information and other tools to help Veterans find their ideal opportunity in the industry.
“FASTPORT is thrilled to extend our technology into the agriculture industry because we have seen how well our nation’s military community fits into this field’s long-term employment opportunities,” said FASTPORT CEO Bill McLennan. “There are many similarities between the military and agriculture, including the need to adapt to constantly changing variables, from weather conditions to supply-chain challenges, and creative problem solving skills to execute the mission at hand.”
McLennan continued. “By attracting more Veterans to this well-matched industry, the Agriculture Track will ensure agriculture companies will continue their essential work of helping to feed the nation and the world.”
This message echoes the one presented by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack at the recent Hiring Our Heroes Roundtable where he discussed how the agriculture industry is an excellent employment channel for thousands of Veterans, transitioning service members, Guardsmen, Reservists, and military spouses.
“We’re working with Hiring Our Heroes to provide veterans an easier way to understand opportunities in agriculture,” said Vilsack. “What we know is that veterans are problem solvers. They understand duty and responsibility. They are incredible hires.”
