FASTPORT Shares Top 10 Best Practices List With Industry Attendees
Lowell, MA – FASTPORT would like to thank all those who attended the recent ATA webinar “Supporting the Troops by Developing a Veteran Hiring Program” on May 12, 2015. With over 100 people on the live webinar, we anticipate many more carriers will soon hear the message on why and how to attract, hire, and retain veterans to help solve the driver shortage problem.
Boyd Stephensen (ATA) and Jim Ray (FASTPORT) were excited to discuss how the industry needs to come together to focus on veterans as a New Source of drivers. But they were thrilled by the number and caliber of questions they received. You can hear this question/answer session in the last 10-15 minutes of the webinar.
The panel, which also included experts from Soldier for Life, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and YRC, debunked hiring myths about veteran employment.
Overall, the panel emphasized how important it is for the industry to work together. This united front is what will bring a new generation of drivers into trucking because the trucking industry is competing with other industries to attract talented veterans. Making hiring commitments for veterans and posting those open positions for veterans on a consolidated platform will benefit both veterans and the trucking industry. As President John F. Kennedy reminded America, “A rising tide raises all boats.”
You can learn more about how to support the troops by starting (or improving) a veteran hiring program by watching the webinar that is posted on the ATA archive linked here. To learn more about FASTPORT and JobMaps™, visit http://fastport.com/carriers.html or give us a call at 978-877-4300.
