Nashville, TN – Feb 4, 2015 – FASTPORT co-founder Jim Ray connected with dozens of employers at the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Recruitment and Retention Conference as a way to enable the trucking industry’s finest carriers to improve their veteran hiring initiatives.
The TCA holds the R&R Conference every year to highlight the industry’s best practices and to educate carriers on the most effective ways to bolster recruiting numbers and to limit driver turnover rates. To underscore this goal, Jim focused his talk on practical steps trucking carriers can (and should) take to start or improve their veteran hiring program and how comprehensive recruiting technology enhances the trucking industry’s brand with the military community.
Duane Boswell, Vice President of Recruiting for TMC Transportation Services, and a staunch supporter of military veterans entering the industry, provided an employer’s insight into the challenges that carriers face when it comes to recruiting. His excellent contributions also emphasized that attracting and hiring veterans can help many employers overcome that recruiting challenge.
The TCA has made an outstanding commitment to hire 50,000 veterans on behalf of its members, and having panels that give practical tips on how to accomplish this is an essential step to make that goal a reality.
“There are a lot of misconceptions about what it takes to recruit and retain veterans in trucking,” said Jim, “but once carriers in the audience saw the real economical benefits veterans bring to companies, you could feel the room’s energy shift. The audience was pumped, genuinely excited, to improve their veteran hiring initiatives, and I’m humbled to be part of that movement.”
