FASTPORT CEO Bill McLennan and the Trucking Track represented the trucking industry in an unprecedented transatlantic Hiring Our Heroes transition summit in Ramstein, Germany this week. Known as the European Theater Transition Summit, it also marked the largest hiring event ever held on U.S. military installations outside the United States.
This unique hiring fair was FASTPORT’s first international event, and its huge success (over 1,200 transitioning service members reached) has given us a template for future overseas functions that will help us reach more service members stationed abroad.
Educating and inspiring airmen and women on the international level has been a longstanding goal for both the HOH and FASTPORT because so many service members stationed overseas need help accessing educational resources to understand the trucking industry’s career options and finding open positions for when they return home. Ramstein’s transition summit is a milestone on the path toward accommodating our military personnel as they connect with great companies and have a career in hand when they exit service and head back home.
Bill led the charge to show that Veterans are set up for profitable, long-term careers in the trucking industry because their military experience has already given them the necessary tools. “Veterans already have experience in the largest and most complex supply-chain in the world: the U.S. military, and that makes them hard-wired to succeed in trucking,” said Bill.
“In addition, they are mission-oriented, understand the value of training, are accustomed to working in changing environments, know how to lead and make decisions, and they do this with a focus safety,” Bill continued. “There is simply no better group to maintain the safety and security of our roadways and highways.”
